It feels unreal for having a golden opportunity to be the guest in <Ryan Doesn't Know> by Snap Original, teaching Ryan Reynolds on how to make a miniature hairdryer.
Ryan Doesn't Know is a short form 7-minutes-or-less variety series that pairs Ryan Reynolds with a diverse group of creators who've made videos that have blown his mind during the pandemic. I was very fortunate and blissful to receive this chance meeting with him and taking part in the show.

Miniature diorama by @Picoworm
Knowing that a scissors sharpener is barely to find nowadays, I made a phone call to Mr.Voon - the master of scissors sharpening to do a documentary about his story, with combination of my miniature art. His shop was formerly located at Lorong Panggung, Kuala Lumpur, has been torn down in April 2018. He is now half-retired while some customers still find him to work on their blunt scissors.
I was very lucky to capture some photos beforehand, and this documentary and diorama are dedicated to preserve the traditional craftmanship.
Specially thanks to Mr.Voon for the amazing interview!

Ever since the government announces the Movement Control Order in our country, I have been thinking to make a tutorial on teaching you how to make miniature while you're staying at home. So I shrink this kopitiam (coffee shop) which located at Kuala Kurau, Perak.
If you would like to make something during the quarantine period, consider watching this tutorial. The objective is to reuse and repurpose whatever you have now without hunting new materials from craft store. It’s not necessary to follow what I’m using but you can burn your creative juice to see what you can do with scrap materials from home.
This kopitiam was a place I visited during the Chinese New Year holiday and that was a great trip to me! It pretty much looks like Hong Kong traditional coffee shop which is pretty rare to see in Malaysia, so I think that is a good idea to make with recycled material.
“ Have fun with scraps ”
mixed media. foamboard, paper, aluminum foil & cardboard.
I never make a human in my miniature scene because I think if I can't make it to 90 out of 100 then I would never present it in my artwork. (Oh man I'm a typical Virgo)
But Chris has made a great job by adding a drawing on it!

How amazing! The enhancement of his drawing has brought my miniature barbershop comes to life!

Since I back from vacation, I have been rushing on this project like 24/7. The concept is to build a Maxis store into our classical shophouse building, and I chose the plain shophouse design around the early of 20th century in Malaysia.

This is the second time to collaborate with Maxis Malaysia and I really appreciate for this opportunity. You can check them out by using S20 Zoom to view the miniature works at KLCC Maxis Center now.
Some close up photos
There is a sundry shop beside the Maxis store, which takes longer time to finish.
I took a time-lapse video so you can check out every item within the work.
There are plenty of works remain unpublished in my social media. Most of them are personal collections which have their privacy concerns. At the end of 2019, I would like to share a work specifically made for my client's parent living far away from him. It is also the first time I attempt to fabricate a bungalow with garden in 1/50 scale.
The challenging part is making the furniture and plants in such a minute size.
This is the patio area where the family used to gather and chit chat here.
It's quite different from what I used to make, nevertheless it's a good try!
Next is the tiny yet spacious garden.
The yellow flowers are smaller than 0.5mm.
Last but not least, it's my very first time to make dogs.
These are their pets passed away some times ago, and I'm glad to build this 2 little souls to commemorate them in this work.
I was invited to skype with the family while unboxing the present. It is very pleased and touching to see how lovely among their relationship is.
There is one more day to the end of 2019. I would like to thank you all of you who always support and appreciate my artwork (especially my family). Also to Mr. Kitrael Chin, thanks for giving me this opportunity to build this piece for you and your family.
Thank you for being patience with me, it always took me a long time to finish a piece of work and I'm so grateful that none of you guys have ever complained about that. Many thanks!
Let's look forward to year 2020, I have more artworks to come and share with y'all. Love & peace.
“ Homesickness No.1 ”
size. L70cm x W80cm
mixed media. wood, foamboard, styrene, paper, etc.
After the mini reconstruction it looks much better to me now. The aging paint on the wall and road is more realistic than the 2017 version. I've also added some object details in both the shophouse and coffee shop.
The 60 years old Ho Kow kopitiam is no longer located at Lorong Panggung.
I brought it back to Kuala Lumpur few days ago, and took a contrast photo with the real scene. This artwork is now exhibited in @ Pandan Republic, Lorong Panggung. Check it out if you're interested.
As time goes by, the skill and accuracy on making diorama has improved. The darn perfectionism in me started to think of reconstructing the mini shophouse I made for Lorong Panggung 2 years ago. Basically I remain all the windows and doors as they look pretty good to me, and transfer them into a new wall. The main thing I ain't satisfy with is the weathering and paint I applied to the wall.
The size is slightly amended too. We will see how is it going till next time.
