I have been trying to do some interesting project with miniature art, until I met Mr.Voon,
I decided to record his story through the lens and craft.
Realizing how rare scissors sharpeners have become, I was fortunate to meet Mr. Voon and decided to capture his story using my craftsmanship.
Mr. Voon, a master in his trade, became the central figure in this documentary, seamlessly merging his life narrative with the intricate world of my miniature art. In the past, scissor sharpening was in high demand as tailors and barbers relied on sharp scissors as their main tools for their livelihoods. However, with the decreasing demand, the shop was eventually demolished and closed down in April 2018. He then moved all his tools and equipment to the patio of his house.
Although he is now partly retired, loyal customers still seek his expertise to fix their blunt scissors. Thankfully, I captured photographs of his shop before its demolition. The documentary and diorama I created pay tribute to the disappearing skill of scissors sharpening and aim to raise awareness and appreciation for the traditional craft.
